It's the year for imporvement-

Hey All,

So I have been thinking about this new year that's ahead. Its a year full of unlimited possibilities and I have decided to make the best of it. That being said January is going to be the kick off month to great crafts, good advice and sweet time savers. This year I'm really getting organized... For real this time. Since we know that we are going to be in our humble abode for a few more years I figure that now is the time to really make it what I want and less of a this will work for now.

In the meantime here is my recipe for vanilla cream pie. ( I forgot about the pictures until the pie plate was cleaned out already... next time y'all) Now the reason I love this recipie is because its a three fer' ( yup I just used fer' as a word) This pie is multifaceted and can be made ahead and I think even tastes better that way. But the real kicker its 3 desserts in one ( or you can break them up and they stand perfectly on their own).

The whole caboodle is based around this amazing homemade vanilla pudding recipe. Now from what I can tell its a pretty standard recipe the ingredients can be found in most vanilla puddings and so are the measurements but what really takes it over the edge is the addition on the vanilla bean guts. They bring a whole new element to the pudding.

But there is more add bananas and you have yourself a southern banana cream pie. So really eat it as vanilla pudding with Nella Waffers, Southern Banana Cream pie or Vanilla bean cream pie it makes an awesome dessert either way.

Sara's Vanilla Bean Cream Pie.

What you will need-

{ Some of these items can be omitted in a pinch so for those you will see a {O} next to them}
3/4 -1 C White Sugar
5 T All Purpose Flour
1/4 t Salt 
2 C Milk ( I use skim but whole would make it much more decadent)
3 Egg yolks
2 t Vanilla extract
1 Vanilla Bean (guts or caviar)
1 Pie Shell Cooked
1/4 C powdered sugar
 4 oz Softened Cream cheese
8 oz Heavy whipping cream


1. Add 3/4 C sugar, flour and salt into a saucepan. Slowly add milk to the mixture while whisking over medium heat. Continue to whisk the mixture until it thickens. Then add in the egg yolks (You can add in a little bit of the warm liquid to the yolks to temper them so they don't scramble.)

  2. Cook the mixture for 3 more minutes while constantly stirring. Once it is cooked fully take it off of the heat and allow it to cool.

3. Mix the powdered sugar with the cream cheese and smear (yup I said smear) it on the bottom of your cooked pie shell.

4. Place your cooled vanilla pudding mixture in the pie shell and set aside ( or in the fridge if your into that kind of thing)

5. Add the heavy whipping cream, 1t of vanilla extract, and  1/4 C of sugar. Beat until soft peaks form. Pile it on top of your pie and serve.
